Breast Cancer Awareness Earrings
My Breast Cancer Story:
-In 2019, during my first mammogram, it was discovered I had DCIS. Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a non-invasive, pre-cancerous breast cancer that affects the milk ducts in the breast. It's the most common type of non-invasive breast cancer and accounts for about 20% of all breast cancers. I chose to have a lumpectomy, go through radiation treatment and then take a drug to help reduce the risk of the cancer coming back for the following five years.
I recently, just finished taking that medication and am so grateful for the the early detection from my mammogram, from my supportive doctors, family and friends. I thought it was important to recognize that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and we would like to recognize it.
We made these earrings to show our support around breast cancer awareness and early detection.
From The National Breast Cancer Association:
In 2024, more than 360,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer. But there is hope. Advancements in early detection methods and support continue to increase the chances of survival. When caught in its earliest, localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate of breast cancer is 99%.
But early detection for all is only possible through action. NBCF is dedicated to Helping Women Now®. The earlier we act, the bigger our impact — and we need your help.
Comer Teng Studio is donating a portion of all sales of these earrings to the National Breast Cancer Association and Runway for Recovery in Newburyport, MA.
About the National Breast Cancer Association:
NBCF is one of the most recognized and respected breast cancer charities in the world. NBCF has received the highest 4-star rating by Charity Navigator, America’s premier charity evaluator, for 16 years. On average, 80% of our expenses are directed to our life-saving programs.
About Runway for Recovery:
Unlike most nonprofits focused on breast cancer, Runway is not oriented toward a cure. Instead, we seek to improve the lives of those who are currently affected by breast cancer by serving as a platform for them to access the resources, knowledge, and support they need. Our mission is rooted in the understanding that no one experiences breast cancer alone, and that there are ways to ease the burden of this disease on parents, children, caregivers, and loved ones. We seek to celebrate and highlight the lives of those affected by breast cancer by motivating communities to support local families and directing funding towards services that significantly improve the lives of children and caregivers along their family's journey with breast cancer.
